FIVE decades after first hitting the music scene, Richard Clapton is still filling rooms and soundtracking lives, and he is bringing his Best Years of Our Lives tour to Kingscliff.

The tour, kicking off in August, marks more than 50 years on stage for the singer-songwriter, whose career began with the 1973 debut album Prussian Blue.

Written in Germany, the album became one of Australia’s earliest landmark singer-songwriter releases and featured the fan favourite I Wanna Be a Survivor.

Clapton’s career quickly took off, with his 1975 hit Girls on the Avenue topping charts and cementing his place in Australian music.

He has since released numerous albums, produced INXS’s second record, toured with the Party Boys and earned a spot in both the ARIA Hall of Fame (1999) and the Australian Songwriters Hall of Fame (2010).

Even after five decades, Clapton continues to evolve. In 2021, he released his first covers album, reworking songs by Bob Dylan, Coldplay, The Doors and more.

Fans at his upcoming shows can expect favourites including Trust Somebody, Capricorn Dancer, Down in the Lucky Country and Girls on the Avenue.

Clapton will perform at the Kingscliff Beach Hotel on Saturday, September 27.
