Friends of the Pound will host a heartwarming fundraising film night in Murwillumbah on Saturday, January 18

The highly acclaimed A Street Cat Named Bob is a moving true story of a stray cat who changes the life of a struggling street musician.

The 2016 British drama was based on the book of the same name and The World According to Bob by James Bowen and stars a cast of actors and Bob the cat as himself.

James Bowen was a homeless musician and heroin addict in London. After finally getting on to a methadone program and receiving approval for a council flat, he meets a stray cat.

Bowen unsuccessfully tries to reunite the cat with his owners, and the newly named Bob becomes his constant companion.

Friends of the Pound (Tweed) Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation that rescues animals from the Tweed Shire Pound. Solely dependent upon donations and the fundraising efforts of volunteers, all proceeds from the film night event will go directly to supporting Friends of the Pound to help care for and rehome animals in need.

The organisation also promotes the importance of responsible pet ownership and hopes to lessen the number of homeless animals, especially by encouraging the desexing of domestic pets.

The film screening at Murwillumbah Civic Centre is open to all, and doors open at 7pm.

Vegan and vegetarian food will be available for purchase before the film, and bookings are essential for the supper-inclusive ticket from 5.30pm.

The event is an excellent opportunity to meet other animal lovers and share a night out of heartwarming cinema for a great cause.
