THE 13th annual North Coast Ceramics Mud Trail will bring visitors into the studios of Northern Rivers artists on August 16 and 17.

Studios in Byron, Ballina and Lismore shires will be open from 10am to 4pm each day, with 22 locations showcasing the work of 33 ceramic artists.

Visitors will be able to see the creative process behind a range of handcrafted pieces, from functional bowls, mugs and vases to larger sculptural works.

The Mud Trail highlights a variety of ceramic styles and firing techniques, giving attendees a broad view of contemporary ceramics across the region.

Alongside the studio openings, 27 free events will take place across the weekend. These include artist talks, live demonstrations and pop-up workshops designed to give visitors a closer look at different approaches to working with clay.

The trail has become a fixture in the region’s arts calendar, drawing locals and visitors alike to meet the makers, learn about their craft and purchase original works.

To help navigate the event, a Mud Map booklet can be downloaded from the North Coast Ceramics website or picked up in print at Mullumbimby IGA and other outlets across the region.
