KENTUCKY native, US artist S.G. Goodman tours Australia for the first time in February and brings her Americana, folk, country, and rock show to the Eltham Hotel on February 11.

Born and raised on the Mississippi River Delta, Goodman’s voice has been described as ‘otherworldly’, and soars above a blend of bottomland grooves and gritty, plaintive balladry.

With her upbringing in a strict Southern Baptist church family of crop farmers, Goodman’s music bespeaks confessional country rock stemming from the singer’s roots and slices of punk and indie rock.

Like many great artists, those singing roots rest in her church upbringing and a lifelong love of guitar, playing since she was a teenager.

Prior to her solo career, the philosophy graduate fronted the band The Savage Radley.

Goodman’s debut solo album, Old Time Feeling in 2021, and the ensuing tour, was a part of the Newport Folk Festival. The album, however, hit the roadblock of COVID lockdowns and was not comprehensively toured.

Her second 2022 album, Teeth Marks, features If You Were Someone I Loved, a searing observation of America’s insidious opioid crisis.

The record has love as its theme, and audiences are invited to dive deeply into the light and dark of the complexities of love.

Challenging and soothing, Goodman has a unique way of bringing the audience into the spectrum of life’s beauty and nostalgia through her distinctive southern lens.

The album’s release marks her first official solo tour.
