San Cisco to perform in Byron Bay

SAN CISCO is bringing their vibrant indie pop sound to regional Australia, with a highly anticipated performance in Byron Bay as part of their tour for the new album Under The Light.

The band’s fifth studio album, released in March, features collaborations with producer James Ireland and contributions from artists like Jay Watson, Nicholas Allbrook, and Neal H. Pogue.

Jordi Davieson said the band wanted to have a different kind of recording experience, one that was less stressful and more enjoyable.

“Recording in our home studio in Fremantle allowed the process to become part of our daily lives,” Davieson said.

He said the key themes of the album are love, romance, and relationships.

“As well as a little bit of misunderstanding in terms of people and privilege,” he said.

Davieson explained that songs came about in two different ways.

He would write a verse and a chorus and bring them into the studio where they would develop them, or they would start in the studio, “bang out a demo” structure of the song, and then write melodies and lyrics to match.

“Some songs were born in my living room, by me playing on the guitar, and other songs were born in the studio with all of us there,” he said.

San Cisco, consisting of Davieson, Scarlett Stevens, and Josh Biondillo, has toured globally and performed at major festivals like Splendour in the Grass, Lollapalooza, and Reading & Leeds.

Davieson said playing regional shows was different from playing at large concerts and that he liked them both for different reasons.

“Playing a smaller intimate venue comes a bit more naturally to me, being down on the level of the audience and it being really sweaty and hot, and everyone is in each other’s face. I kinda love that.”

“But then also playing festivals is an incredible thing to do and it feels kind of unreal.”

Reflecting on performing in Byron, Davieson said, “I love

that part of the world and feel very at home in a coastal surfing town.”

“The Beach Hotel is one of my favourite venues, and we’re excited to bring our new music to our fans there.”

“You meet some characters, and it’s a different level of connection compared to bigger city venues.”

Davieson said that in Byron the audience could expect to hear both old favourites and new songs too.

San Cisco will perform at the Beach Hotel in Byron Bay on Friday, August 9, at 8:00 PM.
