FOLK and indie rock musician Moby Beefheart is returning to the Northern Rivers, where he spent time writing and recording his new solo album before launching his career in a new direction with talented guitarist Winter McQuinn.

The pair will play a feature show at Pearces Creek Hall on Friday, June 6, and support JB Paterson at the Eltham Hotel on Saturday, June 7.

William Murray (Beefheart) lived near the hall and worked at the hotel last year.

He linked up with McQuinn after moving to Melbourne, with the pair set to play one of their first live shows together.

“It feels nice to have been part of the community and to come back for my music,” Beefheart said.

“I watched a lot of bands play at Eltham, but I never got the chance to get up on stage myself.

“I’ve been to a few shows at the hall and it’s such a special space, too.”

The duo have released their first single, Hand in Hand, with the album due to come out next year.

They share a love of folk and rock sounds of yesteryear and created a new album within 12 weeks.

Beefheart is a former member of British rock band Fur and has performed across the world.

He is looking forward to playing at Pearces Creek Hall, which offers a boutique setting.

The hall is managed by a dedicated group of volunteers who support bringing talented musicians to the venue.

“It will be a real treat to play these shows; both venues offer something different and a real sense of connection,” he said.

“The setting lends itself to the music at the hall, it’s very chilled and the acoustics sound great in there, too.”

Playing at the Eltham Hotel will also see Beefheart link up with JB Paterson, who is the main performer on the night.

“I actually met him at the pub when I first moved to the area,” Beefheart said.

“I bought an album of his and we made a real connection, so it will be nice to link up and do a show together.”

Tickets are available at the Pearces Creek Hall Facebook page.
