Carols by the river in Ballina
AROUND 3,000 people are expected to gather for Riverside Carols at Ballina on Sunday 8 December.
The alcohol-free event at Kingsford Smith Park will begin with performances from local preschools, schools and dance groups, before traditional carols are sung, led by a band of local musicians.
It will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display.
Glow sticks will be available for purchase and there will be a variety of food trucks in attendance, including Lennox Smokin’ Barrel, Big Nay’s Kebabs and Burgers, Gunter’s Flammkuchen, Pulp Burger, Sushi Wagon, Sweet Swirls Ice Cream and Tropical Sno Australia.
Riverside Carols Committee chair Alison Parr said the event began 30 years ago in the backyard of a local church, with just 20 attendees.
It is now hosted by the combined churches of Ballina and Lennox Head.
“I love that it brings the local community together to sing carols and reminds us of the true meaning of Christmas,” she said.
“Our aim is to spread joy throughout the community by sharing the love of Jesus and celebrating His birth.”
Riverside Carols will be held at Kingsford Smith Park, opposite Ballina Seagulls Football Club, from 6.30pm to 9pm on Sunday December 8. Gates open at 5.30pm.
