Community groups unite to combat domestic violence through charity ride
VOLUNTEERS and support teams joined a dedicated group of cyclists who tackled a grueling 350km endurance test over three days in the Ride Against the Wind Challenge.
The charity ride was organised by Lennox Head fitness group and men’s support group the Boaty Boys to raise awareness and funds to combat domestic and family violence.
About 50 riders from across the region showed determination and resilience during the challenge.
Run in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Ballina on Richmond, the ride took participants from Bonalbo to Eltham, continued to Uki on day two, and finished at Lennox Head.
The distance mirrored the reported 350 domestic violence calls made in New South Wales each day.
“It’s about raising awareness, starting important conversations, and generating much-needed funds for organisations working on the front line of domestic violence support,” event organiser Grant McGregor said.

“Domestic violence prevention has been a focus for Rotary Ballina on Richmond for some time and we’re incredibly proud to partner with them to help raise awareness and much-needed funds through this challenge.”
The ride is latest in the groups long-standing commitment to community fundraising.
The Boaty Boys have previously been part of gruelling marathons and challenges supporting mental health, Parkinson’s disease, children’s health, and regional recovery initiatives.
Overall funds raised will go towards the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect to support delivery of the Love Bites program in local schools.
It will also be used for the DV Safe Phone program which provides refurbished mobile phones to people fleeing domestic violence, giving them a vital connection to emergency services and support networks.
