Emergency services on show at Tweed expo

TWEED residents will be able to meet emergency crews and watch live demonstrations when the Emergency Services Expo returns to Jack Evans Boat Harbour on September 6.

The free family event will run from 10am to 3pm and feature police, ambulance, fire, SES, marine rescue, surf lifesaving and Red Cross.

Tweed mayor Chris Cherry said the expo was a valuable opportunity to see how agencies worked together to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters.

“Watching our frontline heroes in action is a great way to understand their vital role,” Cherry said.

“Learning how we can all contribute to disaster preparedness will make the Tweed a safer, more resilient community.

“This is particularly important following the devastating 2022 floods and, more recently, Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.”

The expo was originally scheduled for May but was postponed due to heavy rain. The new date coincides with the start of the local bushfire season, which has been brought forward to September 1 in response to rising fire risk.

Visitors will be able to explore emergency vehicles and equipment, take part in disaster-ready workshops and see response teams in action during simulated crisis events.
