BALLINA Shire Council is hosting a Community Connections Expo to help boost local clubs and organisations who rely on the support of volunteers and who are in desperate need of new members.

It follows a similar event at Lennox Head in February where more than 100 people were able to connect and become new members of groups who attended on the day.

The free event will be held at Ballina Surf Club on Saturday, August 30.

“The Community Connections Expo is all about showcasing the incredible groups that make our community so strong,” Cr Erin Karsten said.

“It’s a chance for the public to discover how they can get involved, give back, or just learn more about the support and services available locally.”

The original event at Lennox Head came about after the closure of local groups and social events due to lack of numbers.

Issues people found were trying to find contact information for current administration and a lack of visibility on social media.

Community organisations are encouraged to register for a free table to promote their group and activities.

Each group will be provided with a table, chairs, and signage.

Groups are welcome to bring their own table coverings and promotional material.

More than 20 community groups registered early and include sporting clubs and environmental groups as well as creative collectives and support services.
