A STRING of art and recreation activities during Youth Week will aim to engage teenagers and help them build on the role they play in the community.
The week-long event is organised by Lismore City council and runs from Wednesday, April 9 until Thursday, April 17.
The theme this year is ‘We are the future, and the future is now!’.
Lismore City mayor Steve Krieg said Youth Week is a chance to celebrate the creativity and contributions of young people in the community.
“This week is all about empowering young people and recognising their influence on our community’s future,” he said.
“Council has worked closely with local young people to design an exciting program with a diverse range of activities.”
The program has been developed with the help of young trainees employed through the council’s Lismore Employment Acceleration Pathways (LEAP) program.
The initiative provides trainees with real-world experience in community engagement.
The program features a mix of sporting, artistic and educational activities, ensuring there is something for everyone.
The ARTEXPRESS Exhibition at Lismore Regional Gallery features selected artworks from local HSC students.
It runs until Sunday, April 20.
Rollerworld is hosting an afternoon event on Thursday, April 10, while Goonellabah Skatepark will host Skate Jam on April 12.
The three-hour Skate Jam runs from 2pm and features competition and demonstrations
There will also be the Thready Set Go clothing mending session on Tuesday, April 15 between 2pm and 4pm at the Lismore Library.
It aims to teach young people how to mend and upcycle their clothing.
The splash and dash obstacle course and pool party has been cancelled due to lack of numbers.
Lismore Youth Week is supported with funding from the Department of Communities and Justice and the Office of Regional Youth.
