FORMER NRL star and television personality Matty Johns is heading to the Northern Rivers for a one-night-only live show at the Lismore Workers Club.

An Evening with Matty Johns will be held on Saturday, 18 July.

Johns is one of the most recognisable personalities in rugby league media, appearing across programs on Fox Sports and previously hosting shows including The Matty Johns Show and The Footy Show.

The Lismore show is presented by Major Events Live and will be one of the first shows Johns has done in the region.

“It’s a night of fun and entertainment from one of the biggest names in Australian sport’s television and media,” an event spokesperson said.

“Matty will be live on stage, running through his favourite moments on and off the field along with topical chat around the current state of rugby league in a way that only he can do.

Johns, who represented both New South Wales and Australia during his rugby league career, played almost 200 NRL games across stints with the Newcastle Knights and Cronulla Sharks.

He was part of Newcastle’s historic 1997 premiership-winning side before transitioning into a successful television and radio career.

He was one of the first players to move into television comedy and came up with his own set of characters including Reg Reagan.

Comedian Justin Karcher has worked with Johns at previous events and will host the evening.

Johns was one of the main co-hosts during his time on the Footy Show with other rugby league legends Paul ‘Fatty’ Vautin Peter Sterling and Paul Harragon.

Sterling and Vautin will appear in a separate show together at the Workers Club on Saturday, 20 June.
