A VITAL flood recovery group is calling on community support to keep its services free and help Northern Rivers residents prepare for future disasters.
Resilient Lismore, a grassroots organisation formed after the 2022 floods, has launched an appeal to raise $5000 by June 30 to fund training, community connection, and recovery roundtables.
The group has completed thousands of repair jobs and contributed an estimated $4.5 million in volunteer aid over the past three years.
It also shares knowledge with at-risk communities across the Northern Rivers and wider New South Wales.
“In a region with high disaster risk and vulnerable communities, our work for the next five years is just as important as the work we have done so far,” Resilient Lismore executive director Elly Bird said.
“It’s been three years since the flood and we’re still here: repairing homes, sharing skills, and helping our community get prepared.
“Cyclone Alfred was a close call, and we know our region has high disaster risk. That’s why we’re focused on being ready, together.
“We’re really asking for the support to continue the important work we do here and across the Northern Rivers.”
Resilient Lismore also plans to expand its events and increase collaboration with local councils and agencies.
The group is guided by a community advisory panel and recently partnered with the Lismore CWA to assist flood recovery on the Mid North Coast.
“We don’t just work here; we share our learnings and stories with other communities across Australia,” Ms Bird said.
“We strongly believe that community must be at the heart of recovery and resilience.
“We’re thankful for the support over the years and want to make sure we can keep building into the future.”
