RESIDENTS can provide feedback to Ballina Shire Council on the draft master plan and revised management plan for the Hampton Park Reserve.

Submissions are open until Friday, February 28.

The reserve is currently designated for public recreation purposes. It is located at the corner of Moon and Burnet streets and was formerly part of the larger Clement Park Reserve.

In early 2024, the council gathered information about community use, needs and aspirations. Key issues were drainage and protecting the fig trees while improving the car park and footpath connections.

The draft plan has the site retaining the croquet, lawn bowls and tennis clubs.

The council resolved to prepare an amended draft master plan for public exhibition after its meeting in November. The draft plan has been on public exhibition since January 28.

Some have suggested a new indoor space for pickleball, with the sport’s group outgrowing the Ballina Indoor Sports Centre on Cherry Street.

“Hampton Park will be reinvigorated as a consolidated active sporting destination,” a council spokesperson said. “New sport facilities will be supported by a pleasant landscape which protects significant trees, effectively manages stormwater, is easily accessed and provides shade and amenity.”

Plans include a new vehicle access point off Moon Street and closure of the Burnet Street driveway access.
