Healthy North Coast presents Healthy Ageing

August 4, 2024 BY

Peer-led practitioner support for growing old healthily in the Northern Rivers

TWEED health professionals can access information and support on healthy ageing at a peer discussion session in Kingscliff on Wednesday, August 21, at 6 pm.

Healthy North Coast’s event focuses on evidence-based approaches to addressing loneliness and isolation and local support services available for elder care.

The pandemic of loneliness at a later age is a focus of this year’s Loneliness Awareness Week, which runs from August 5 to 11. Ageing patients often face challenges of loss of independence, isolation and grief, which can affect mental health and an increased risk of loneliness.

Primary healthcare professionals, including GPs, practice nurses, and allied health professionals who wish to learn more about the impacts and options for reducing the risk of mental health problems, are invited to the Tweed Valley Clinical Society event.

The peer-led discussion will discuss evidence-based approaches to addressing patients’ mental health and available local services. It aims to help understand the priorities that will be used to deliver the Healthy North Coast Healthy Ageing Strategy in the Tweed region. Participants will learn about the Healthy Ageing Early Interventions Health Pathways, evidence-based approaches to addressing loneliness and isolation, local services available to reduce their incidence, and how to screen and talk with ageing patients about their mental health.

Clinical Society events are a platform for primary health professionals to make friends, network, learn new and localised information and have fun in a collaborative, knowledge-sharing space. Face-to-face clinical societies in the region are held every three months and focus on a topic relevant to the local area.

Entry to the discussion event at the Kingscliff Bowling Club is free, and registration is via whatsontweed.com.au/event/28745619-a/tweed-valley-clinical-society-healthy-ageing-and-mental-health
