Investors sought for new Aussie film
A NEW Australian movie Swing Set is set to be filmed in Byron Bay, with filmmakers seeking final investors to bring the project to life.
The comedy explores the story of a couple in their 40s navigating the plateau of a long-term relationship when they’re unexpectedly invited to a swinger’s party.
Written by screenwriter Stephen Davis — known for the schoolies comedy Blurred and thrillers Monkey Puzzle and Drown — Swing Set delves into themes of love, sex and self-worth during midlife.
Davis has partnered with distributor and producer Jonathan Page, as well as producer Yolandi Franken, whose past credits include the drama Streets of Colour and Carmen & Bolude.
“I’m in the age group of the target audience,” Franken said. “You’re getting to the age where your body isn’t the same, your mind isn’t the same, your relationship is getting stale and you have to come to terms with the new you and the new normal.”
Byron Bay was chosen as the preferred filming location thanks to its beautiful scenery, progressive spirit and creative community.
“The people in Byron are more understanding and open when it comes to discussing things like intimacy and relationships so we thought it would be a good fit culturally,” Franken said. “We have a few cast members based there as well, but we can’t reveal any names until we have dates locked in, so we need to have our finance locked in. We are about 75 per cent financed so we just need the final 25 per cent.”
The film already has confirmed distribution across Australia and New Zealand, along with an international sales agent representing global rights.
The production team is now inviting investors, sponsors, and supporters to get involved — whether through equity investment, brand placement or tax-deductible donations.
