The NSW Reconstruction Authority will host key workshops to help business owners plan and adapt for future disasters on the Northern Rivers.
The next free event is also open to not-for-profit groups and will be held at Lismore Workers Club on Tuesday, October 28.
It is run in conjunction with the Safer Future group, which has international experience in disaster resilience and emergency management.
Safer Future offers resilience strategists and emergency management professionals along with psychologists, counsellors and community engagement leaders.
“Having a clear plan is vital to prepare for the unexpected, so you can safely continue trading and serving the community as soon as possible,” an event spokesperson said.
“You will also have the chance to connect with local business champions, chambers, council and support agencies to help with building your plan and resilience.”
The event will also help attendees draft a business continuity plan which details how they would operate in the aftermath of floods and other disasters.
It is supported by the federal governments Disaster Ready Fund.
The fund has seen investment in disaster mitigation across infrastructure projects in the region.
It aims to create evidence-based programs, supported by community-led initiatives.
The Reconstruction Authority is also working on the next phase of its State Disaster Mitigation Plan for 2026.
It aims to reduce exposure and vulnerability to natural hazards, including community awareness and preparedness, plus infrastructure to help mitigate natural hazards.
It has been prepared by technical analysis, research, previous inquiries, expertise, and broad stakeholder and community engagement.
There will be another free workshop at Murwillumbah Services Club on Wednesday, November 5.
