MINISTER for Regional Health Ryan Park has announced a significant boost to parking facilities at the Tweed Valley Hospital.
Motorists will have an additional 130 car parks, alongside upgrades to existing parking areas, boosting capacity to more than 1,300 free parking spaces across the campus.
The additional spaces and enhancements will follow an operational review of the transport and traffic arrangements. Upgrades such as new signage, line marking, and enhanced parking management systems aim to maximise space and improve the efficiency of existing facilities.
Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park said he was delighted to announce the enhanced facilities.
“The Tweed Valley Hospital is delivering expanded health services closer to home for thousands of residents and a modern and welcoming workplace for staff,” Park said.
“We’ve listened to valuable feedback from staff and the community, and we will deliver additional car parking to further enhance access to the hospital and vital health services for the local community.”
The $723.3 million Tweed Valley Hospital opened to patients in May 2024 and offers new services for over 5,000 patients annually, including interventional cardiology and radiotherapy.
NNSWLHD will deliver the project partnership with Health Infrastructure, which will be funded as part of the Tweed Valley Hospital Redevelopment.
Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) Chief Executive Tracey Maisey said it would make a real difference to patients, visitors, neighbours, businesses and staff.
“Our staff’s care and dedication has contributed to the success of our new hospital since its opening,” Maisey said.
“We’re confident these practical steps will improve access to the hospital campus and ensure we continue to deliver first-class healthcare to our community.”
Labor Spokesperson for Tweed, Emily Suvaal MLC, said the community had embraced the hospital.
“This new health facility has been designed to meet the unique and growing health needs of our region,” Suvaal said.
“There have been many special moments already, with 787 babies welcomed in the new birthing suites.”
Federal Member for Richmond Justine Elliot thanked the NSW Government for its commitment.
“NSW Labor went to the last election with a rock-solid commitment that parking would be free at the new Tweed Valley Hospital,” Elliot said.
“Thanks to our community who fought so hard for this.”
Work is expected to begin in the coming months and be completed before the end of 2025.
