Multiple race meetings as Tweed River Jockey Club enters summer season
TWEED River Jockey Club is preparing for one of its busiest periods of the year, with multiple race meetings scheduled across the coming weeks.
The club will host the Tweed Summer Dash on Saturday, January 24, featuring a six-race card and live entertainment from popular Northern Rivers rock band Fat Albert following the final race.
Another key meeting, the Evergreen Turf Country Championship Preview, will be held at the track on Sunday, February 1.
There will be TAB and bookmakers’ facilities available in the betting ring with additional bookmakers located on the course.
Last year, the club had plans to upgrade its irrigation system on the course and refurbished its members area with a paint job and retile.
There is a new 100-inch television screen installed inside with maintenance work done on parts of the track.
The club also has vacancies for trainers and horses in its on-course stable complex at the racetrack which comprises 13 boxes.
Leading Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is expected to have a strong presence at upcoming meetings across the Northern Rivers.
Dunn has had multiple horses qualify for the $3 million Big Dance at Randwick over the past four years.
Qualification for the 2026 Big Dance has already begun, with the top two finishers in the $65,000 Ballina Cup earning automatic entry.
“We’ve had a Murwillumbah trained horse in the Big Dance each year since it started in 2022,” Tweed River Jockey Club secretary-manager Tim Booth said.
“It’s a great concept and it has increased the profile of our cup days.”
The Tweed club conducts 11 race meetings per year with nine TAB Meetings and two community meetings.
It is the only Northern Rivers club that has races on Anzac Day and during the Melbourne Cup
The 2026 Murwillumbah Cup will likely be held in August, following the Grafton racing carnival.
Tickets for the races can be purchased at tweedriverjockeyclub.com.au
