North Coast Mud Trail returns to showcase local ceramic artistry

THE Northern Rivers region will once again become a hub of creativity as the North Coast Mud Trail returns this weekend on August 17 and August 18.

The annual event invites the public to explore the diverse world of ceramics by visiting 26 local potters spread across 23 studios.

This year’s Mud Trail promises not only an opportunity to purchase unique ceramic pieces but also a chance to engage with the artists behind them.

Visitors can enjoy a range of activities including artist talks, workshops, and live demonstrations.

The event offers a rare glimpse into the creative spaces where these artisans work and provides a platform for them to share their passion for pottery.

North Coast Ceramics president Jacqui Sosnowski said the Mud Trail was a highlight for both locals and visitors, allowing them to experience the rich ceramic culture of the area.

“It’s a unique opportunity to step inside the workshops of our talented potters and see firsthand the dedication that goes into their craft.”

The event spans from Lismore to Byron, with each studio offering something different, whether it’s a live demonstration or a hands-on workshop.

Participants are encouraged to grab a brochure and plan their own route, taking in as many studios as they can over the weekend.

Sosnowski added that the Mud Trail has almost doubled in size this year, reflecting the growing interest in the event.

“We’ve got a fantastic lineup of artists and activities, so there’s something for everyone,” she said.

“It’s a great way to support local artists and discover the beauty of handmade ceramics.”
