Shut up and write in Lismore

October 1, 2025 BY

WRITERS of all kinds are invited to a new program at Lismore Library offering a quiet, structured space to focus on their work.

The weekly ‘Shut Up & Write’ sessions give students, researchers, creatives and literary aspirants dedicated time for assignments, novels, theses, journal entries or grant applications.

Lismore area librarian Michael Lewis said the library was more than just books.

“It’s a space for creativity, connection, and community,” Lewis said.

“Shut Up & Write gives people the chance to carve out an hour each week where their only focus is the joy of getting words on the page.

“These are not writing workshops, and there is no reading of your work or giving feedback.”

The global nonprofit initiative began as a way to create free and welcoming spaces for writers to build consistent habits without pressure or distraction.

Sessions run each Tuesday from 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm.
