WORK on a significant overhaul to make it easier and safer for Tweed residents to drop off their waste has begun at the Stotts Creek Resource Recovery Centre.
The upgraded facility will provide a more efficient and modern service for the community and staff and is a key part of the facility’s master plan.
Stage 1 of the works involves relocating the green waste drop-off area to the rear of the site, with signage and staff to guide customers.
Stage 2 will see the demolition of the existing transfer station and construction of the new facility, with temporary drop-off areas and regular updates to help customers adjust.
The project aims to provide additional space for waste and recycling drop-off, improve traffic flow, and reduce congestion.

Covered drop-off areas will improve safety and keep recycling dry, with fewer vehicles at the tipping bays and more opportunities to reuse and recover good-quality items through the JUNKtion Tip Shop.
Tweed Shire mayor Chris Cherry said the project would transform how the Tweed community disposes of and recycles waste and was an exciting milestone.
“The upgraded transfer station will make it easier for everyone to drop off their waste and recycling, with more space, better traffic flow and covered areas that keep recycling dry and in good condition,” Cherry said.
The tip will remain open throughout the construction stages, and work is expected to be completed by mid-2026.
