FAMILIES can look forward to a day of fun, food and festivities at The Pocket Winter Festival this Sunday June 22.

The event, which will be held at The Pocket Public School near Billinudgel from 10am to 2pm, will include performances by Spaghetti Circus, a petting zoo, face painting, a tepee village featuring a gem dig, rock climbing and bungee activities.

Much-loved children’s entertainer Shorty Brown the Clown will keep the kids laughing with her giant bubbles and playful antics, while a sideshow alley, kids’ disco and student performances will add to the family-friendly atmosphere.

Entertainment continues with the quirky Salmonhead, who strums the guitar and harmonica while sporting his signature salmon-themed hat. The musical lineup also includes roots artist and didgeridoo-beatboxer Nathan Kaye, performing as part of the duo Bark Side of the Moon, alongside high-energy circus acts from Ziggy & Zumba.

Adults won’t miss out, with gourmet food trucks serving up everything from curries and tacos to pies and sweet treats.

There will also be a craft beer bar by Mullumbimby’s Wandana Brewing Co.

Festivalgoers can also try their luck with tombola games and a raffle offering impressive prizes, including a handcrafted acoustic guitar valued at $3,000 made and donated by local luthier Chris Brown of Reddhill Guitar Company. Other prizes include accommodation packages at Beach Hotel Resort in Byron Bay and Ramada Hotel & Suites by Wyndham Ballina, as well as vouchers for acclaimed local restaurants including You Beauty in Bangalow and Bistro Livi in Murwillumbah.

Last year’s event drew more than 1,500 attendees and this year’s festival — organised by volunteers from The Pocket Public School P&C — will raise more vital funds for the school.
