A VINTAGE fashion fair will bring local collectors and creatives to Ballina next month, with organisers aiming to tap into growing demand for sustainable fashion.
The Walk on the Wild Side Vintage Fair will be held at Shaw’s Bay Hotel in Ballina on May 2, with a second event scheduled for July 4 at Cherry Street Sports Club.
The event will feature a mix of designer vintage clothing, recycled fashion, handmade goods, local brands, art and homewares.
Organiser Rochelle DeBono, who has spent decades working in vintage collection and events, said the aim was to focus on quality and originality.
“A lot of local markets are people selling what’s left in their wardrobe,” she said.
“This is different, it’s about high-end vintage, designer pieces, and carefully made goods that have a real story, longevity and value.
“It’s about creating an experience, not just a market.
“We’re bringing together people who are passionate about what they do in a setting that feels community driven.”

DeBono previously founded and directed Hello Sailor Vintage Fair, a travelling fashion and lifestyle market held across Melbourne venues and festivals.
She has more than 25 years’ experience and previously co-owned Miss Brown Vintage in Byron Bay.
The Ballina fair reflects growing interest in sustainable fashion and second-hand clothing, with organisers encouraging shoppers to invest in pre-loved and ethically produced items.
Local stallholder and vintage collector Mel Watson, owner of Two Roads Vintage in Newrybar, said the events support independent creatives.
“My collection spans from the 1940s to the 1990s, with the 1970s being my main flavour,” she said.
“It’s important to support local and keep unique businesses in the region.
“These events give people access to something different.”
Each event will include live music and children’s activities, with a DJ performance from local singer and songwriter Lila Swain.
