A CONSTRUCTION company that played a vital role in Lismore’s flood recovery has won five awards at the 2024 Business Lismore Awards, including Business of the Year.<\/p>\n

Joel Jensen Constructions, led by Joel Jensen, secured the top honour just a month after also winning five awards at the Master Builders Association NSW – Northern NSW & New England Awards.<\/p>\n

The company has thrived under Jensen’s leadership despite the challenges of a pandemic and two floods.<\/p>\n

Mr Jensen’s actions during the 2022 flood, when he ventured into the floodwaters with a mate and a boat to rescue residents, earned him immense respect in the community.<\/p>\n

“It just had to be done,” he said. “There was no call to arms, everyone just knew it had to be done.”<\/p>\n

After the floodwaters receded, Jensen’s business premises in South Lismore were left in ruins.<\/p>\n

Despite this, Mr Jensen kept his staff on and focused on helping the community recover, offering structural assessments and clearing mud and debris.<\/p>\n

Joel Jensen Constructions has also been involved in rebuilding many of Lismore’s businesses, including 187 Cantina and La Barracca.<\/p>\n

Mr Jensen said it was amazing to attend the award night to celebrate the Lismore Business community and its achievements and resilience.<\/p>\n

“We were blown away to win five awards on the night, including the major award – Business of the Year!”<\/p>\n
