Photo CATHY ADAMS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca Sproule from Lismore City Council said it was a great opportunity for students to connect with their council and form positive experiences.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s really important to put these opportunities in front of young people and say &#8216;Everything that you want to do is achievable here at home&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For our local economy and our local growth as a city, it&#8217;s important those 18-25-year-olds stay in town.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Forty-one students from Nimbin Central School, St John&#8217;s College Woodlawn, Summerland Christian School, and The Rivers Secondary College Kadina Campus participated in the Student Showcase event.<\/p>\n<p>Lismore City Council General Manager Jon Gibbons said it was more than an educational outing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today is a glimpse into a world of local government operations that students and the public &#8211; do not often see,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2024\/09\/DSC_2255_96281.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lismore City Council engineer Jack Marr and Kadina High Year 9 students Levi Castle and Miles Power at a careers day. Photo CATHY ADAMS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Through interactive sessions, students will delve into the sophisticated workings of community services, including waste management, fleet and open spaces, water and wastewater, law enforcement, plus roads and engineering.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Student Anthony Sandrk is in Year 10 at Nimbin Central School and said it had been an informative day.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a pretty fun day, I&#8217;ve learnt something about council.
