{"id":103231,"date":"2024-11-25T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-24T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballinatimes\/?p=103231"},"modified":"2024-11-20T21:31:22","modified_gmt":"2024-11-20T10:31:22","slug":"rifle-range-road-upgrade-complete","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballinatimes\/news\/rifle-range-road-upgrade-complete\/","title":{"rendered":"Rifle Range Road upgrade complete"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE $4.1 million upgrade of Rifle Range Road in Bangalow is now complete, reopening the key intersection with Lismore Road and promising improved safety and flood resilience for the community.<\/p>\n<p>The project included raising the road, rebuilding the intersection, installing culverts under Lismore Road and widening it to create a right turning lane into Rifle Range Road<\/p>\n<p>New shared paths were also added to connect two new bus bays to Tristania Street, as well as signage and safety barriers.<\/p>\n<p>Work began on the project in May and was due to be complete in August, but was delayed due to wet weather.<\/p>\n<p>Traffic on Lismore Road was reduced to one lane for much of the period.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2024\/11\/AnewbusshelteronLism_56250.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A new bus shelter on Lismore Road in Bangalow. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The project was jointly funded by the NSW Government, the<\/p>\n<p>Australian Government and Byron Shire Council.<\/p>\n<p>Council&#8217;s director of infrastructure services Phil Holloway apologised for the delay and the inconvenience to local residents and road users during the construction period.<\/p>\n<p>Local resident Lauren Julian, who represents Bangalow on Council&#8217;s Place Planning Collective, said the upgrade had been more than a decade in the planning.<\/p>\n<p>Along with longtime locals Clare Hopkins and Jenny Bird, she applied for grants and advised council on such things as the design of the bus shelters.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2024\/11\/ThedrainunderLismore_57565.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Rifle Range Road intersection upgrade included improved drainage.
