Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rohan Stewart, from Brunswick Bush School, said he used to joke that bush school was like the hippy version of Scouts.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ten years ago, we were the only ones offering a weekly program for kids \u2014 now there are heaps of nature-based bush school type set-ups,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Northern Rivers area has long been at the forefront of challenging old paradigms and exploring different ways of living and being, but we are definitely seeing these values spreading throughout broader society, with bush kindies and bush schools spreading all over the nation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/01\/RohanStewartwithstud_50681.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rohan Stewart with students at Brunswick Bush School. Photo: DAVID COPE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Children in the program can also learn to make nest boxes for animals and how to whittle.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We play lots of games and in summer we swim in the Brunswick River,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Children are happy, at ease, relaxed and engaged in nature, which are the ideal prerequisites for optimal learning and growth.
