{"id":104002,"date":"2025-01-08T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-01-07T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballinatimes\/?p=104002"},"modified":"2024-12-19T20:34:14","modified_gmt":"2024-12-19T09:34:14","slug":"new-jobs-list-recognises-the-importance-of-the-arts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballinatimes\/news\/new-jobs-list-recognises-the-importance-of-the-arts\/","title":{"rendered":"New jobs list recognises the importance of the arts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE AUSTRALIAN Bureau of Statistics updated its list of occupations in Australia and New Zealand, including some creative occupations for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>The first edition of the Occupation Standard Classification for Australia was published on December 6.<\/p>\n<p>Theatre Network Australia made submissions to the Round 3 and Round 4 consultations for the new list, advocating for changes to reflect the modern performing arts workforce.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are very pleased to see many of our recommendations, made alongside colleagues from Creative Australia, Screen Australia, Live Performance Australia, and others, have been taken up,&#8221; a statement from the organisation said.<\/p>\n<p>Julian Louis, the artistic director of the theatre company Norpa said including the sector on the list was a step toward recognising the importance of the arts in the community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It acknowledges our workforce, and including this sector and this industry is a really important step,&#8221; Louis said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It legitimises the huge impact the arts has on the fabric of life and the vibrancy it brings to the community.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/01\/460128745_1120028052_85612.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"750\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Productions such as Norpa&#8217;s Wildskin add to the vibrancy of the community and provide&#8217;s jobs. Photo: NORPA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s not just a &#8216;nice to have&#8217;, it&#8217;s essential.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Louis highlighted Norpa&#8217;s current campaign to buy a building in Lismore&#8217;s CBD, and the impact it has on a community still recovering from the 2022 flood.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are working hard to buy a building to become a cultural hub. It&#8217;s an important step in the recovery. We know we play that role,&#8221; Louis said.<\/p>\n<p>The classification, which replaces ANZSCO, is a standardised framework for storing, organising and reporting occupation-related information.<\/p>\n<p>Inclusion on the list helps inform Australia\u2019s decision-making based on the labour market.<\/p>\n<p>New jobs added to the list include circus performer or trainer, audio or live performance director, production manager, performance designer, live performance producer, and production coordinator.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE AUSTRALIAN Bureau of Statistics updated its list of occupations in Australia and New Zealand, including some creative occupations for the first time.
