THEY were one of the most talked about acts at last year’s festival, and Here Come the Mummies is back performing all four nights at Bluesfest this year.<\/p>\n

The identity of members of the eight-piece funk-rock band from Nashville is kept literally under wraps, with rumours they include “reincarnated” Grammy Award-winning artists who may be tied with other record companies trying to avoid contract disputes.<\/p>\n

Since emerging in 2000, they have performed everywhere from Super Bowl Village to the That’s My Jam game show with Jimmy Fallon.<\/p>\n

The band includes Mummy Cass on guitar and vocals, Eddie Mummy on drums and vocals, K.W. TuT on bass and vocals, Spaz on keys and vocals and The Pole! on bass.<\/p>\n

Then there’s Dr. Yo on saxophone, tambourine and vocals, Highlander on tenor sax, High Priest of Death on trumpet and Midnight Mummy on baritone, tenor saxophone, keyboard, percussion, talk box and vocals.<\/p>\n

“We’ve always called our music ‘terrifying funk from beyond the grave’, but don’t let that scare you off,” Mummy Cass said. “It’s a stew of mouldy funk with punchy horns that rocks, or slaps or bangs\u2026 Or whatever you call it at your house.”<\/p>\n

Mummy Cass said the group was overwhelmed by the response from the crowd at last year’s Bluesfest and can’t wait to return.<\/p>\n

“They roared in our faces after every song, and we loved it,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The flight from the USA might seem long to you, but when you are 5,000 years old, it is nothing.”<\/p>\n

Here Come the Mummies is playing at Bluesfest at 10pm on Friday and Saturday and 8.30pm on Sunday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
