BALLINA Shire Council is calling on the community to provide insights into waste habits at homes and potential barriers where improvements could be made over the next 12 months.<\/p>\n

Residents can complete an online survey for the Resource Recovery Section to gain a greater understanding around attitudes and behaviours towards waste and recycling in the region.<\/p>\n

Council resource recovery education officer Justine Rowe hopes the feedback can be used for further education programs and initiatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe understand people are busy and it\u2019s sometimes hard to know what goes in which bin, but we also know Ballina Shire is home to a lot of residents who try to dispose of their waste correctly and responsibly,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are asking residents to take five minutes to tell us a bit about their current waste practices and how we could support them to make waste management and waste minimisation simpler.”<\/p>\n

The results from the community survey will help guide the direction of council\u2019s resource recovery educational materials and programs over the next 12 months.<\/p>\n

Possible outcomes include more local community clothes swap events or repair cafes.<\/p>\n

Textiles are one of the most common items by volume found in landfill bins across the shire.<\/p>\n

Council has already held recycled clothes swaps and workshops with the Northern Rivers Community Gallery.<\/p>\n

The survey can be completed online, or over the phone by calling our Resource Recovery Section on 02 6686 1287 or online at ballina.nsw.gov.au<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n
