SOUTHERN Cross University vice-chancellor Tyrone Carlin has been re-appointed after five years in the role, following progress on research funding, a major campus redevelopment, and improved financial performance.<\/p>\n
Carlin, who joined SCU in 2018 as deputy vice-chancellor, was appointed to the top job in August 2020. He has led the university through a period of transformation, including changes to learning during the pandemic and SCU’s role as a multipurpose facility after the 2022 floods.<\/p>\n
Chancellor Sandra McPhee said the university council was confident Carlin would continue to strengthen the institution.<\/p>\n
“Professor Carlin has led Southern Cross through a transformative period, shaped by our commitment to changing lives through revolutionary learning and research with real impact,” McPhee said.<\/p>\n
“Council has been particularly impressed by his ability to harness the collective talent and dedication of our university community, and the seemingly infinite energy he brings to the role.<\/p>\n
“Professor Carlin’s focus on clarity of purpose and strategy has delivered tangible results across every part of the institution,”<\/p>\n
McPhee said the university’s improved financial position had allowed for investment in new courses and other services as part of a $140 million master plan at Lismore.<\/p>\n
The redevelopment includes refurbished teaching spaces, a research hub, new cultural spaces, student accommodation, a synthetic athletics track, sports precinct, outdoor amphitheatre and a revamped Goodman Plaza.<\/p>\n
“The Master Plan is not a fixed plan but rather a strategic framework that will help us create a place of excellence,” Carlin said.<\/p>\n
“The vision will deliver state-of-the-art facilities for research and learning, enterprise zones for regional development, and support the inclusion of vibrant public spaces promoting inclusivity and cultural richness.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
