A VOLUNTEER support group has helped purchase more than $280,000 in new defibrillators and clinical equipment for St Vincent’s Hospital in Lismore.<\/p>\n

The Friends of St Vincent’s Hospital funded 10 clinical-use defibrillators with Advanced Life Support capability, as well as several smaller portable AED devices for use throughout the facility.<\/p>\n

President of the group Ann Spillane said she was proud to see the donation come to life.<\/p>\n

“What gives us satisfaction is that these defibrillators will not only benefit those within the hospital walls, but also the people surrounding it,” she said.<\/p>\n

“We can’t afford to lose anyone, and our job is to provide the best care possible.”<\/p>\n

The Friends volunteer group was established nearly 40 years ago and supports both St Vincent’s Private Hospital and St Joseph’s Nursing Home. Volunteers work alongside the activities officer and offer one-on-one support for residents at the nursing home.<\/p>\n

The donation was formally received at a cake-cutting ceremony attended by staff and volunteers.<\/p>\n

Hospital chairman Damian Chapelle said the support group played a vital role in the life of the hospital.<\/p>\n

“St Vincent’s would like to say a huge thank you and appreciation to the Friends volunteer group who organised these new resources,” a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“It’s great to see the monies raised by the Friends going towards the purchase of clinical equipment that will benefit the hospital and the entire community for years to come.<\/p>\n

“This generous donation goes hand-in-hand with our goal to constantly improve staff competency levels in the area of Advanced Life Support.”<\/p>\n
