{"id":107418,"date":"2025-06-06T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-05T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballinatimes\/?p=107418"},"modified":"2025-06-04T17:03:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-04T07:03:12","slug":"environmental-review-planned-in-bridge-reconstruction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballinatimes\/news\/environmental-review-planned-in-bridge-reconstruction\/","title":{"rendered":"Environmental review planned in bridge reconstruction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALLINA Shire Council will duplicate two key bridges to improve flood resilience, safety and emergency access, with environmental assessments now open for public comment.<\/p>\n<p>The project includes upgrades to Fishery Creek Bridge on River Street and the Canal Bridge on Tamarind Drive, with construction expected to begin in the coming month and be completed in 2027.<\/p>\n<p>Council&#8217;s project manager Brett Dyki said early works were well underway, with water mains and underground communication services already relocated at Canal Bridge.<\/p>\n<p>Relocation works at Fishery Creek Bridge are expected to be finished next month.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the planning process, council has prepared a Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for each bridge and is inviting public submissions.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_112262\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-112262\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-112262\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/06\/484149533_1042144331_15191_tn.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"222\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-112262\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fishery Creek Bridge, Ballina. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The REF process allows us to take a close look at how these projects could affect the environment and local community, and plan carefully to minimise any impacts,&#8221; Mr Dyki said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We encourage the community to review the documents and share their feedback.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a vital step in making sure all concerns are heard and considered before we move forward with final designs for this major project.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The $40 million upgrade is funded by the federal government through the Emergency Response Fund and administered by the NSW Reconstruction Authority under the Northern Rivers Recovery and Resilience Program.<\/p>\n<p>Feedback can be submitted via the council&#8217;s consultation website, with submissions closing on Friday, June 13.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BALLINA Shire Council will duplicate two key bridges to improve flood resilience, safety and emergency access, with environmental assessments now open for public comment.
