However, Giteau\u2019s law has been loosened in recent years, and may soon be eradicated entirely.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taking on Overseas Players<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Current head-coach Joe Schmidt has spoken up on the rule loosening, revealing that the Wallabies don\u2019t want to \u2018discount anyone\u2019 and mentioning the benefits that could arise from taking on players from overseas. That being said, he has also acknowledged the difficulties that come into play when doing so, and how difficult it could be to bring someone from the outside into a team that already plays well together.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Should the rule be relaxed in the way that is being proposed, there are a certain number of players who could directly benefit. La Rochelle\u2019s Will Skelton, who formerly held the position of second row with Saracens, could be one of them. Additionally, Peter Samu, currently playing for France, and Samu Kerevi, currently playing for Japan, could both be brought back to Australia to give the team the edge it needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Effect of Recent Injuries<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One factor that may have pushed Schmidt to reconsider this rule is the various injuries his team have faced in recent weeks. Both the talented and popular <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.net.au\/story\/8963403\/lolesios-spinal-injury-sours-brumbies-super-derby-win\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Noah Lolesio<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and big-money league convert Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii were both taken off the pitch in stretchers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.net.au\/story\/8966802\/jaw-surgery-leaves-suaaliis-lions-status-in-limbo\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suaalii\u2019s injury<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> involved a nasty concussion that will prolong his return to the pitch, and, although we know Lolesio\u2019s injury isn\u2019t being deemed as serious, we still have no idea when he will be fit to return to work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These injuries to two of his best players are certain to have reminded Schmidt how fragile his team is, and could have driven him to consider recruiting from overseas as a way to cover for skilled player losses in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Henry Pollock<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, Schmidt already has his eyes on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/2025\/may\/10\/believe-the-hype-make-pollock-the-lions-midweek-captain-and-watch-him-flourish#:~:text=Last%20summer%2C%20when%20Pollock%20was,rugby%20needs%20people%20like%20him.\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">England player Henry Pollock<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and has voiced his approval of the 20-year-old&#8217;s rapid climb to success.
