{"id":108483,"date":"2025-07-22T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballinatimes\/?p=108483"},"modified":"2025-07-22T09:44:56","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T23:44:56","slug":"push-to-transform-byron-town-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballinatimes\/news\/push-to-transform-byron-town-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Push to transform Byron town centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CREATIVITY, culture and community will guide a new council project aimed at reinvigorating the Byron Bay town centre.<\/p>\n<p>The trial, funded by the NSW Government, will explore community support for creating a special entertainment precinct that could allow more live events, clearer trading\u00a0hours for venues, and extra on-street dining.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy mayor Jack Dods said the project was not about turning Byron Bay into a party town.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This project aims to create a vibrant public realm in Byron Bay by activating spaces for community events, markets, and creative activities,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am hopeful that it will also give us the data to begin tackling challenges like safety, poor lighting, and excessive noise and set clear, enforceable guidelines and lay a strong foundation for renewed vitality enjoyed by both locals and visitors.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cr Dods said the plan could help bring life to quieter parts of the town centre.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I also hope it will bring new life to under-utilised parts of the town centre, like the rail corridor park and our laneways, by making it easier for our vibrant artistic community to host creative events at various times of the year,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Council will ask residents, businesses, creatives and visitors for feedback from late July through pop-up events, focus groups, online engagement and information sessions.<\/p>\n<p>A map showing the area proposed for the trial and further details are available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.byron.nsw.gov.au\/Council\/Plans-Strategies\/Masterplans-Place-Plans\/Byron-Bay-Masterplan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">council website<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CREATIVITY, culture and community will guide a new council project aimed at reinvigorating the Byron Bay town centre.
