{"id":110845,"date":"2025-10-27T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-26T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballinatimes\/?p=110845"},"modified":"2025-10-22T22:50:19","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T11:50:19","slug":"10-year-old-driver-set-to-turn-heads-on-the-race-track","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballinatimes\/sport\/10-year-old-driver-set-to-turn-heads-on-the-race-track\/","title":{"rendered":"10-year-old driver set to turn heads on the race track"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AMBROSE Sauer is set to turn heads when the 10-year-old becomes the youngest driver to compete in the NAPA Junior Gold Cup Invitational in Adelaide.<\/p>\n<p>The Pottsville-based junior has done most of his racing at Lismore and will be part of the national event which coincides with the Adelaide Supercars grand final on November 29-30.<\/p>\n<p>The juniors will drive on a temporary speedway dirt track before it will be transformed into a racing circuit for the Supercars.<\/p>\n<p>The race will feature 20 of the best junior drivers from around the country between the age of 10-17.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am looking forward to the experience. I was stoked on hearing the news after Mum said it was probably going to be too hard to get into,&#8221; Ambrose said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s going to be a great experience; it&#8217;s a chance to learn from other kids and see how they drive.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I want to become a professional driver and race as much as I can.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ambrose has already embarked on a racing career in karts, with four years&#8217; experience under his belt.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_118133\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-118133\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-118133\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/10\/att.puwg4JrBsD-4AtFt_41549.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-118133\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ambrose and his dad Mick Sauer working on his sedan at the Lismore Speedway track. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The championship will be run on a pointscore system incorporating two heats and a feature race on both days.<\/p>\n<p>Ambrose has been supported by his parents Mick and Kim Sauer who were promoters at Lismore Speedway for the previous three seasons.<\/p>\n<p>The family filled out an expression of interest application to the South Australian Motorsport board to compete in the event.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were surprised by it all. He&#8217;s going to have to race really well against the older kids,&#8221; Kim said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m sure it will be a lot of fun and it&#8217;s something he should be proud to be part of.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The race will also feature two other drivers who have experience on Northern Rivers tracks.<\/p>\n<p>Travis Dhu has grown up racing karts at Casino, while Benji Gordon is based on the Mid North Coast and recently competed for the Queensland junior sedan title.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AMBROSE Sauer is set to turn heads when the 10-year-old becomes the youngest driver to compete in the NAPA Junior Gold Cup Invitational in Adelaide.
