THE Gold Coast Titans have reconfirmed their support for coach Josh Hannay, with Craig Bellamy no longer being considered for the head coaching role at the club.<\/p>\n
This comes after it was revealed that Hannay’s three-year contract had a clause that could see him move into an assistant coach position in 2027 should the club be successful in securing Bellamy as its coach.<\/p>\n
But on his first official day in charge, the club has concluded that the 45-year-old is the best man for the job.<\/p>\n
Speaking to club media, Hannay said that he was looking forward to trying to help create something special on the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n
“It’s great to officially get started with the Titans,” he said.<\/p>\n
“We’ve assembled a talented and driven team, and I’m confident we’re ready to build something truly special here on the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n
“There’s a lot of hard work ahead, but we’re energised and completely united in our vision.”<\/p>\n
Titans chairman Dennis Watt would also speak in the statement, acknowledging that the club had approached Bellamy but elements of the commentary surrounding the situation had been inaccurate.<\/p>\n
“Craig Bellamy’s legacy in the game speaks for itself,” he said to the Queensland-based masthead.<\/p>\n
“His interest in returning to Queensland is well known, and as a club committed to success and excellence, we had a responsibility to explore every possibility that could strengthen our future and secure the expertise of the most successful coach in the modern era.<\/p>\n
“We make no apologies for pursuing the best.<\/p>\n
“That’s what ambitious and successful organisations do.<\/p>\n
“While we don’t comment on confidential contractual matters, we can say that much of the recent commentary has been inaccurate.”<\/p>\n
