TWEED Shire Council is inviting local landholders to participate in a free half-day workshop on December 6 to support residents seeking to restore bushland areas on their properties.<\/p>\n

The Fundamentals of Bush Regeneration and Seedling Identification workshop at the Pottsville Environment Centre will cover the basics of bushland restoration, including a deeper understanding of the definition of weeds and the importance of bush regeneration.<\/p>\n

Foundational concepts, including disturbance and resilience, site assessment methods, best practice weed control techniques, and identifying common look-alikes, will also be covered.<\/p>\n

Facilitated by bush regenerator, naturalist, and author Rusty Linnane, the morning includes a short tour of a bushland site to assess its weediness, approaches to weed control, and to discuss management strategies for the broader site.<\/p>\n

With over 25 years of field experience, Linnane is known for engaging and information-packed workshops on ecological restoration and native plant and weed seedling identification.<\/p>\n

Tweed Shire Council\u2019s private land and conservation officer, Michael Corke, said it was an ideal opportunity for inexperienced rural landholders wanting to take the first steps towards controlling weeds in their patch of bush.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis introductory level workshop will cover what a weed is, why we do bush regen, and important principles such as being able to tell the difference between native plants and look-alike weeds, especially at the seedling stage,\u201d Corke said.<\/p>\n

The workshop includes morning tea. Sun-safe outdoor attire, sturdy footwear, water, and insect repellent are required.<\/p>\n

Attendees are also encouraged to bring along weed samples for identification.<\/p>\n
