THIRTY-five new electric vehicle charging points will be installed in the Northern Rivers as part of a $5.9 million NSW Government investment to extend the state’s EV network.<\/p>\n

Designed to boost regional tourism and support the shift to cleaner transport, the stations will be located at 11 sites in Lismore, Tweed, Kyogle and Kempsey LGAs as part of 48 new regional locations over the next year.<\/p>\n

The extension program aims to make travelling with an EV more convenient, while supporting local regional economies as more EV drivers stop to explore and spend in communities.<\/p>\n

The new stations will introduce faster chargers than previous rounds, which are powered by 100 per cent renewable energy.<\/p>\n

The government has delivered funding for almost 3,300 new chargers at more than 1,200 sites across NSW.<\/p>\n

Exact locations in the Northern Rivers are being finalised in consultation with local councils.<\/p>\n

Member for Lismore and Minister for Small Business and North Coast, Janelle Saffin, said it was fantastic to see the investment and what it would mean for the region’s tourism and sustainability.<\/p>\n

“Expanding our EV charging network makes it easier for visitors to travel here, stay longer, and support local business,” Saffin said.<\/p>\n

“It also encourages more people to adopt electric vehicles, reduce their emissions, and protect our environment.<\/p>\n

“It’s a win for our community, the economy and the environment.”<\/p>\n
