ROAD works and upgrades will begin at the Lismore Recycling & Recovery Centre from early February, with the full project expected to be completed by the end of the year.<\/p>\n
The essential works follow damage caused by the 2022 floods, which has been compounded by ongoing heavy vehicle use at the site.<\/p>\n
The first stage of construction will focus on a full pavement rehabilitation of the road between the front gate and the weighbridge, including kerb reinstatement and drainage improvements.<\/p>\n
Plans also include the establishment of a dedicated service road for heavy vehicles, along with upgrades to hardstand processing areas to improve the loading and movement of different waste streams throughout the site.<\/p>\n
Traffic management will be in place from early February through to late March, with reduced operating hours during construction.<\/p>\n
Both the waste facility and the Lismore Rainforest Botanic Gardens will close daily at 1pm.<\/p>\n
Lismore mayor Steve Krieg said residents and businesses should plan ahead while the works are underway.<\/p>\n
“Council encourages residents and businesses to allow extra time when visiting the site during construction,” Cr Krieg said.<\/p>\n
“Once this initial upgrade is complete, construction and remediation of roads and hardstands further into the site will begin as part of the delivery of an exciting new Lismore Recycling & Recovery Centre Masterplan.<\/p>\n
“This is the start of a bigger vision, a safer, more efficient centre that supports our community and the circular economy.”<\/p>\n
The project is jointly funded by the federal and state governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements and will be done by Ireland Civil Contracting.<\/p>\n
The Revolve Shop will continue operating on its usual days but will close earlier to align with the waste facility’s reduced operating hours.<\/p>\n
