{"id":112815,"date":"2026-01-25T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-24T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballinatimes\/?p=112815"},"modified":"2026-01-21T21:47:06","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T10:47:06","slug":"community-champions-to-be-honoured-at-ballina-australia-day-ceremony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballinatimes\/news\/community-champions-to-be-honoured-at-ballina-australia-day-ceremony\/","title":{"rendered":"Community champions to be honoured at Ballina Australia Day ceremony"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALLINA Shire Council is preparing to host its annual Australia Day Ceremony, featuring community awards, a citizenship ceremony and live entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>The event will be held at the Lennox Head Cultural Centre from 9am to 11am and will be open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Local radio announcer Sandra Jackson will serve as master of ceremonies, while Ballina Shire mayor Sharon Cadwallader will present awards recognising the contributions of individuals and groups across the region.<\/p>\n<p>Entertainment will include a special performance by Ballina Players, with cast members from their recent production Georgy Girl: The Seekers Musical set to take the stage.<\/p>\n<p>The Australia Day awards have been running for more than 40 years and celebrate achievements across eight categories, including young citizen, senior citizen, volunteer of the year, arts and culture, environment, sport and community event of the year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This event is open to everyone and provides an opportunity to celebrate the everyday people whose efforts make a lasting difference in our community,&#8221; an event spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>This year, 18 people have been nominated for the Citizen of the Year award, with strong nomination numbers also received in the sport and community event category.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Cadwallader thanked residents who took the time to nominate community members.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A big thank you to everyone who submitted a nomination this year,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Your efforts help shine a light on outstanding individuals and groups whose work often happens behind the scenes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Australia Day celebrations will continue after the ceremony, with the Lennox Lions Club hosting its annual barbecue and live music on the Lennox foreshore until 2.30pm.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, including the full list of nominees, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/ballina.nsw.gov.au\/2026Awards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ballina.nsw.gov.au\/2026Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BALLINA Shire Council is preparing to host its annual Australia Day Ceremony, featuring community awards, a citizenship ceremony and live entertainment.
