A TOURING exhibition examining Australia’s long-standing obsession with home ownership will be shown at the Tweed Heads Library.<\/p>\n
Titled The Australian Dream, the exhibition has been curated by comedian and architecture enthusiast Tim Ross and draws on archival material from the State Library of NSW to explore how ideas of home have been shaped, sold and reimagined over time.<\/p>\n
The exhibition features architectural drawings by figures including Nino Sydney and Peter Muller, alongside archival photographs and vintage real estate brochures.<\/p>\n
It traces changing ideas of housing across decades, from post-war suburbia through to contemporary debates around affordability and access.<\/p>\n
Ross said the exhibition challenges the narrow idea that the Australian dream has ever been limited to a quarter-acre block.<\/p>\n
“For a long time, we’ve been told that the Australian dream means a quarter-acre block, a Hills Hoist, and a Holden in the driveway, but that’s never been the whole story,” he said.<\/p>\n
The exhibition also reflects on how housing insecurity and rising costs have reshaped attitudes to ownership for many Australians.<\/p>\n
The Australian Dream will be on display at Tweed Heads Library from February 16 to March 15.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
