POLICE are conducting forensic inquiries after human remains were found near the Richmond River in Ballina.<\/p>\n

Emergency services responded to the river near Cherry Street about 3.50pm on Monday, February 16, after receiving reports that possible human remains had been discovered.<\/p>\n

\u201cOfficers attended and located the remains on the northern bank of the river,\u201d a NSW Police spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPolice from the Richmond Police District established a crime scene before the remains were transported to Ballina Police Station for further examination.\u201d<\/p>\n

A forensic assessment will now be carried out to determine the identity of the deceased.<\/p>\n

Anyone with information that may assist investigators is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.<\/p>\n
