LISMORE City Council has completed extensive stormwater restoration works across more than 100 sites and 45 rural roads, aiming to improve flood resilience and keep key transport routes open during heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n

The program focused on clearing blockages and replacing damaged culverts and drainage infrastructure at critical locations across the local government area, including Terania Creek, McLennan, Repentance Creek, Whian Whian and Young roads.<\/p>\n

The completed works are expected to improve water flow through the road network, reduce future flood impacts and strengthen long-term reliability for outlying communities.<\/p>\n

The works were funded under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, with support from state and federal governments, and delivered through the councils Flood Restoration Portfolio.<\/p>\n

Mayor Steve Krieg said the project demonstrates the benefits of coordinated recovery efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the help of state and federal governments, we\u2019re restoring a network that can handle wet years, not just wet weeks,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s resilience our community can see today \u2013 and rely on tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lismore MP and Minister for Recovery Janelle Saffin said the project reflects a long-term investment in regional resilience.<\/p>\n

It is part of a broader suite of major road restoration initiatives now underway across the LGA, including the extensive Landslip Restoration Package and Pavement Restoration Program.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis project is a prime example of all levels of government working together to support the Lismore community\u2019s long-term resilience,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy delivering the infrastructure needed to better manage water flow, we are helping to protect the region from future weather events.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOur community deserves infrastructure that is built for the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis drainage program provides practical, lasting solutions that ensure our rural areas remain connected and supported, no matter the season.\u201d<\/p>\n
