	{"id":115392,"date":"2026-05-26T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-25T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballinatimes\/?p=115392"},"modified":"2026-05-20T17:16:35","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T07:16:35","slug":"kingscliff-to-host-worlds-largest-womens-surfing-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballinatimes\/news\/kingscliff-to-host-worlds-largest-womens-surfing-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Kingscliff to host world&#8217;s largest women&#8217;s surfing festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WHAT organisers describe as the world&#8217;s largest women&#8217;s surfing festival will return to the Tweed Coast next month, backed by $110,000 in NSW Government support for this year&#8217;s event at Kingscliff Beach.<\/p>\n<p>Running from June 20 to 21, the fourth Seas The Day Women&#8217;s Surf Festival is expected to attract competitors and spectators from across the country, following record attendance figures last year.<\/p>\n<p>More than 15,000 people attended the 2025 festival, while 314 women took part in the surfing competition.<\/p>\n<p>Organisers said the event is designed to create a supportive and inclusive atmosphere for surfers of all ages and abilities.<\/p>\n<p>NSW Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said the event aligned with the government&#8217;s push to increase female participation in sport.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Minns Labor Government is committed to helping more women and girls take part in and stay involved in sport across NSW,&#8221; Kamper said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Seas The Day is a fantastic opportunity for female surfers of all ages and abilities to compete or give surfing a go in a supportive, non-judgemental environment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The free festival program will include surf film screenings, live music, entertainment and wellness workshops focused on physical and mental health, including yoga, breath work and ice baths.<\/p>\n<p>Talks from professional female surfers and leaders in sustainability, wellness and photography will also feature across the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The Celebrity Surf Challenge featuring world champions, media personalities and Olympians from different water sports is also set to return.<\/p>\n<p>NSW Minister for Women Jodie Harrison said the festival continued to build momentum while encouraging women and girls into surfing and the broader surf industry.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Minns Government is proud to support the wonderful Seas The Day festival as it goes from strength to strength in encouraging women and girls to participate in surfing and become part of a community and industry focused on health and wellbeing,&#8221; Harrison said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The festival plays an important role in providing a welcoming, pressure-free opportunity for women and girls of all ages to grab a board and enjoy the waves.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Whether it be to compete, share waves with friends or to simply be in the water, surfing has so many benefits.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>NSW Minister for the North Coast Janelle Saffin said the festival is expected to deliver both community and economic benefits for the region.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The North Coast is the heart of Australian surfing, and I am thrilled to see Kingscliff once again take centre stage for the world&#8217;s largest women&#8217;s surfing festival,&#8221; Saffin said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our region has shown incredible resilience over the past year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Events like Seas The Day bring our community together while showcasing our world-class breaks to thousands of visitors who, in turn, provide a vital boost to our local businesses and regional economy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Surfing Australia chief executive Chris Symington said the festival had become a significant event on the national surfing calendar.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is a privilege to see the NRMA Insurance Seas The Day return to Kingscliff Beach for its fourth consecutive year,&#8221; Symington said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The event has become a key moment on the surfing calendar, reflecting the continued growth, strength and professionalism of women&#8217;s surfing in Australia,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The strong levels of participation, community engagement and performance highlight the positive trajectory the sport is on.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Seas The Day Women&#8217;s Surf Festival will run from June 20 to 21 at Kingscliff Beach.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WHAT organisers describe as the world&#8217;s largest women&#8217;s surfing festival will return to the Tweed Coast next month, backed by $110,000 in NSW Government support for this year&#8217;s event at Kingscliff Beach.
