ROUS Public School is preparing to host one of the longest-running community events in the region at the 45th annual Bonfire Night.<\/p>\n

The popular fundraising event will be held on Saturday 13 June and brings together families from across the region for an evening of entertainment, food and fireworks.<\/p>\n

Originally established in 1981 to celebrate the school’s centenary, the bonfire has grown into a signature event on the local calendar and remains a major fundraiser for the school. There will be market stalls, games, rides, raffles and a range of food and drink options.<\/p>\n

Organisers have introduced several new attractions, including a Trail of Horrors, which will replace the traditional tractor ride, and a tombola in place of the popular gumboot toss.<\/p>\n

A new lineup of amusement rides will also be on offer, including a ‘wipeout’ attraction designed to keep thrill-seekers entertained.<\/p>\n

Rous Public School P&C president Mel Towner said the event’s success came from strong community support and the involvement of students and families.<\/p>\n

“It’s a very good recipe for fundraising and the community really gets behind it,” she said.<\/p>\n

“The kids are a major part of it; all they want to do is help, which really makes it what it is.”<\/p>\n

With around 90 students enrolled, funds raised through the event help cover the costs of playground upgrades and school equipment<\/p>\n

A shuttle bus will operate on a gold coin donation every 30 minutes between Robertson Street in Alstonville, outside Coles, and Rous Public School from 4pm to 9.30pm.<\/p>\n
