“While this is only one of our initiatives that we do around volunteering, it’s probably the main one, and it’s the one where I think it has the biggest impact in terms of visual impact, where they can see the difference it’s making because they all take part in it every year\u2026” he said.<\/p>\n
“I think therefore for them, knowing that this is an event they want to be continuing in their community… the fact that they’re playing a part in actually making that possible, I think is a really important thing.”<\/p>\n
He said students were also made aware of the significant volunteer effort required to stage the parade each year.<\/p>\n
“The funding that the Lantern Parade gets to actually put on the Lantern Parade is a tiny drop in the ocean compared to what it actually does cost to actually run the event, so the kids are really made acutely aware of the need for volunteers in that space,” he said.<\/p>\n
Scotton said the Lantern Parade continues to play an important role in bringing the wider Lismore community together, particularly in the wake of recent challenges.<\/p>\n
“I think just bringing that joy, which the Lantern Parade does to a community that’s been really hard hit over the years, I think it really has that extra added benefit,” he said.<\/p>\n
The Lismore Lantern Parade will be held on June 20, with participants assembling in the Riviera Carpark behind Molesworth Street to depart at 5.30pm.<\/p>\n
