LISMORE City Council is bringing vital services and recovery agencies together for its first Emergency Management Expo to help residents prepare for future disasters.<\/p>\n
The free community event will be held on Saturday 20 June at The Quad.<\/p>\n
Part of the council’s Community Strategic Plan, the expo will provide practical information on a range of natural hazards affecting the region, from floods and bushfires to landslips and fire ants.<\/p>\n
Among the agencies attending will be the NSW State Emergency Service, NSW Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW, the NSW Reconstruction Authority, Australian Red Cross and local recovery organisations including Resilient Lismore.<\/p>\n
Mayor Steve Krieg said the initiative was designed to help residents better understand how to prepare for emergencies before they occur.<\/p>\n
“We know how critical it is for our community to be prepared, and this expo is about giving residents the knowledge and tools they need before an emergency happens,” he said.<\/p>\n
“By bringing frontline responders, recovery agencies and council resources together in one place, we are making it easier for families to learn how warnings work, collect vital safety resources, and build long-term resilience.<\/p>\n
“It is about empowerment, education and making sure our community feels supported and connected to the agencies that keep us safe.”<\/p>\n
The event will coincide with the annual Lismore Lantern Parade, which has traditionally recognised the contribution of local emergency services.<\/p>\n
Lantern Parade festival director Jyllie Jackson said incorporating the expo into the parade’s daytime activities was a natural fit.<\/p>\n
“The Lantern Parade has always been about bringing our community together in a spirit of celebration and connection,” she said.<\/p>\n
“With thousands of locals and visitors already flocking to the CBD for the daytime activities and markets, it is a wonderful opportunity to use that energy to educate people on something so vital to our region’s resilience.<\/p>\n
“We are thrilled to support council in delivering this initiative alongside our festivities, making essential emergency preparedness practical, interactive and completely accessible for families.”<\/p>\n
Visitors to the expo will be able to explore emergency service vehicles and equipment, watch safety demonstrations and access resources to help develop household emergency plans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
