{"id":116384,"date":"2026-07-11T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-07-10T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballinatimes\/?p=116384"},"modified":"2026-07-08T16:38:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-08T06:38:09","slug":"business-and-community-leaders-to-hit-the-dancer-floor-for-cancer-council-fundraiser","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballinatimes\/news\/business-and-community-leaders-to-hit-the-dancer-floor-for-cancer-council-fundraiser\/","title":{"rendered":"Business and community leaders to hit the dancer floor for Cancer Council fundraiser"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Stars of Ballina Dance for Cancer is set to return, with seven local personalities preparing to compete on the dance floor in a bid to raise $100,000 for Cancer Council NSW.<\/p>\n<p>Last held in 2024, the fundraiser will see business and community leaders spend 10 weeks learning a dance routine before taking to the stage at Ballina RSL Club on Saturday 12 September.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by the television show Dancing with the Stars, the evening will feature live performances, auctions and entertainment, with all proceeds supporting Cancer Council NSW&#8217;s research, prevention programs, advocacy and support services.<\/p>\n<p>Among this year&#8217;s contestants is Ballina RSL Club talent and training coordinator Scott Redford.<\/p>\n<p>Having seen loved ones affected by cancer, he said he was honoured to be involved.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Over the past 20 years, I&#8217;ve served my community in many roles, and now I dance to raise awareness and vital funds, all while embracing the fun and joy of this incredible experience,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Every step I take is for those still fighting. Together, we can bring hope and make a real difference.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Willow &amp; Zee owner Jodi Wallis is embracing the challenge after her father battled prostate cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Cherry Street Sports Club&#8217;s Paul &#8216;Bluey&#8217; McDermott is stepping outside his comfort zone to help families impacted by cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Unplugged Elopements co-owner Kirsty Ella Laing is combining her love of dancing with a cause close to her heart after cancer touched several members of her family.<\/p>\n<p>Hartley&#8217;s Fresh Market owner and Ballina Chamber of Commerce representative Joeline Hartley hopes to continue her passion for supporting the community by helping raise vital funds through the event.<\/p>\n<p>Sisu Recovery front-of-house team member Jess Lynam said her aunt and uncle&#8217;s ongoing cancer treatment had strengthened her determination to support others facing the disease.<\/p>\n<p>Ballina Colour Copy owner and Ballina Players president Peter Harding lost his sister to cancer before later receiving his own diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>He said the experience highlighted the far-reaching impact the disease has on families, friends and communities.<\/p>\n<p>Donations can be made at <a href=\"http:\/\/stars.cancercouncil.com.au\/event\/stars-of-ballina\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stars.cancercouncil.com.au\/event\/stars-of-ballina\/home<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Stars of Ballina Dance for Cancer is set to return, with seven local personalities preparing to compete on the dance floor in a bid to raise $100,000 for Cancer Council NSW.
